danger! jay-walking med students!

The state of New Jersey is broke.

So what do they do about it? They position two undercover cops in the vicinity of each of the three cross-walks at my school and target jay-walkers. Really?

That is six (SIX) undercover cops handing out hefty tickets, on the second day of school, to students who already have no money, all because they chose to walk across the street in a spot that is convenient but lacks the appropriate painted white lines.

This is so ridiculous and stupid that I don’t know what to say.

  1. I once got pulled over by a state trooper for jaywalking in Vermont. Seriously, he followed my friend and me for about 20 yards and turned on the lights and sirens to yell at us for crossing the street against the light. In the middle of bumfuck, Vermont (*cough Middlebury *cough).

He must have sensed that I was having a hard time taking him seriously, because he went into full-on state trooper aggro mode and threatened me with all kinds of infractions. “Okay,” I said. “Sorry.” He finally left us alone after about 10 minutes of sheer, aggressive bullshit.
